Unlike most other dungeons, a player's ability to progress into the treasure dungeon depends heavily on their luck - either through a 50/50 chance of choosing a door or the literal spin of a roulette wheel. 

There are currently 14 types of treasure maps, with each type having a different level and reward. These can be purchased on the Market Board or gathered by Disciple of the Land classes (the Timeworn Zonureskin Map can be gathered from the north of Fort Jobb as a Miner or south of Tomra in Kholusia as a Botanist). Each map has an 18 hour cooldown, which can be tracked in the Market Board's Timers tab.

FATEs

FATEs are special quests that can be found in all corners of Eorzea. They are not only a good source of EXP but also provide a decent amount of Gil.

Unlike other in-game activities that can take a very long time to complete, like killing monsters for their hides and crafting materials, leves are relatively quick. The Fates (Greek Moirae, plural: Parcae) are the goddesses of human destiny. According to Hesiod (8th century bc), they spun, dispensed, and cut the thread of human fate at birth -- determining the span of a person's life and their allotment of misery and happiness.

Eureka and Bosjan

There are tons of exclusive items in FFXIV that can't be purchased in any other way except by participating in certain kinds of optional content. Dye materials are a perfect example. Many types of optional content offer hard-to-get dyes as rewards, and these sell like hotcakes on the Market Board.

Sadly, these kinds of items don't tend to be very useful for up-to-date players as they reach their limit for gear upgrades. But they do work for a steady source of gil. In version 6.3, Tomestones of Poetics have been added to the game.  This makes it a better investment than simply selling the raw stuff to a vendor. The profit margin isn't huge, but it adds up over time.

Daily Roulette

FFXIV's in-game currency, Gil, is needed for everything from crafting materials to buying weapons and gear. The game's various income-generating activities can make you quite a bit of Gil, including Treasure Maps, Tomestones and Ventures, as well as completing Beast Tribe quests.

Besides the obvious (selling excess gear), players can make money by running a Daily Roulette. This feature matches players with matchmade groups to complete a specific dungeon or trial within the content they've unlocked in the game. There are many Daily Roulettes available, with each one offering a different experience bonus.
