Unique & worth the playthrough. A memorable, simple game. Bizarre. not bad at all, recommended for old school point and click fans. 7/10. This little game went beyond my expectations. Really interesting story, complex plot, loved the switch from dreary daily life to fantasy, and the ending was unexpected - something many good games end up failing at is a good ending, which wasn't the case. That said, it was a little too linear sometimes and fairly short if you have experience with this kind of adventure game - I wouldn't say puzzles are very obvious or easy, however. You will have to work and think to solve them!
Graphics are old school, detailed and provide a good atmosphere, nothing special. Voice acting was pretty good, music and sound effects were nice if unremarkable, controls are classic point & click. There was a little clipping at certain points or things that should work but fail a few times because the mapping is weird. Nothing too annoying.
All in all, very enjoyable and clever game.. Minimalist pixel hunt with adult themes
Charming retro graphics and Point n Click gameplay
Interesting plot that improves hugely as it progresses
Decent voice acting
Never managed to break the logic or get nonsensical dialogue.
Very low resolution and only windowed mode
very small clickable areas for some items
Interface minimal and lacks feedback. A pixel hunty, not exactly logical attempt at a point 'n' click.
If you want some games that use the ags engine well, have good story and overall work a lot better (oh and are free rather than spending $10 on something as bad as this) then look into some of the early Reality On The Norm games, some it might be a little hard to hunt down links that aren't broken for since they are rather old but they are a shining example of how to use the engine correctly and also have a pretty good storyline between them.
Or if you straight up crave point n click look at some of telltale games' stuff (I personally reccomend their sam and max games)
. When you first start playing this, you may think it's going to be another one of those generic indie point n' clicks. Kinda cool, some interesting concepts maybe, but largely forgettable . This one really started to stand apart for me once you start reading the book and are transported into the story. The puzzles are fiendishly difficult. Just as I was congratulating myself for besting the dragon with no guide help, I get absolutely crushed on the most insane "8 queens" puzzle I've ever encountered. I figured out that the harpy constellation is important, I figured out the chest numbers. I even solved the 8 queens puzzle on my own. But would I have ever figured out, without a guide, thatthe 8 queens puzzle had a twist, and that not only did the queens have to be out of check with each other, but they had to represent the harpy constellation as well?I don't think so.. A good enough point and click, would reccomend to fans of the genre even if it is too adventure game-y and arbitrary at times. It kept me engaged for a good few hours.
What the in god's name was that ending though? Real talk.
I have no idea what the developers were thinking. I loved this game. very simple game play, lovely story. Love the retro graphics. Worth playing. Pros:
- The plots. There's two of them, Both are magnificent.
- Graphics, music and voice acting, Everything is top class.
- Most of the puzzles. Very good! Logical and challenging. Hard to find nowadays.
- Starchart/8 queens puzzle. It's ridiculous! And sadistically implemented. The same implies for Rites/Bunker puzzle. Reminds me of nightmarish puzzles in some early quests.
- Some realtime puzzles require pixel-perfect positioning of the main character. VERY annoying.
Nonetheless, it's a great game. Highly recommended.. Start to finish a brilliant game; like playing a grea novel. Fantastic, gripping story that leaves you eager to see what will happen next. Absolutely recommend this shocking adventure...

Hello there! Today (Sat 05 May) we have updated the standard (default) branch of The Samaritan Paradox to Version 1.1. Please see below for important notes about previously Saved Games.
Your game will update automatically with a download of around 14mb. This update currently applies to the Windows version only. We hope to update the existing Linux version in due course.
Version 1.1 has been rebuilt through the latest version of AGS (3.4.1) which allows for better performance on high resolution monitors. You may need to adjust the settings (via Winsetup) to suit your needs.
Alt+Enter to switch between Fullscreen & Windowed Mode whilst playing
Increased memory cache (up to 512mb) to reduce slowdown issues
Updated steam_api.dll for those who have experienced an error on startup with "SetAchievement^1" error
Also, Spanish translation has been updated with some minor spelling and grammar fixes thanks to walas74.
Saved Games: Due to the rebuild through a new version of AGS engine, players who have saved games before today will now have incompatible save games with version 1.1.
If you want to restore your old Save Games, you will need to jump back to version 1.0. This is very simple:
Right click on The Samaritan Paradox in your Steam library, choose Properties and then select the Betas tab. From the drop down menu, select "Freja v1.0" and you will be on the Freja branch.
We apologize for the inconvenience but want to keep the game up to date and compatible with newer hardware since its release in 2014. Thanks for understanding!
As always, if you continue to experience any issues please let us know in the Steam forum: https://steamcommunity.com/app/283180/discussions/
Note: We realize some elements of each translation may not be working fully, and hope to fix this and update version 1.1 in the near future. We've also tested better functionality of the inventory bar after player feedback, and hope to also have a small update for that soon.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the developers next game, Whispers of a Machine. More info can be found at: http://www.whispersofamachine.com/
