...the why and wherefore of the name is of no special consequence I can think of and it is certainly of no importance here, but it is a story for another time. Awhile back, I had to go to the Clinic for a stress test and in so doing, I had tae get up extra early tae do my chores, take a shower and eat breakfast and get to the bus-cubby on time.
Of course, I had tae feed my cat who was still shaking from the thunder and lightening last night. He seemed to need a lot of extra loving from his 'daddy'. Slept with me, too; and on one real thunder buster he woke me up. Is that where the term 'scaredy cat' comes from I wonder?
Finishing the chores and making sure that old cat was in, I knew there would be time for a leisurely walk to the bus-cubby for the rural bus, so off I went. ‘Tis a distance, don't you know, from our village to the clinic and the cubby is down the road a piece from here. The air was clear and clean smelling, the smell of violets was everywhere, and since it had stopped raining I just wore a light sweater as I started out for my jaunty.
Upon arriving at the bus cubby, the sky began changing from a beautiful cerulean blue with soft, billowy clouds to azure, then greenish and finally indigo. The birds, singing their cheerful songs a moment before, quickly stopped, and the treetops shook violently, as if an unseen hand had laid grasp of them and was attempting tae pull them up as a carrot is uprooted from its garden spot.
Then began the worse storm I had seen in a long time. The now blackened clouds were churning, turning, and changing shapes in a frenzied state while the wind took on a typhoon like downpour, whipping gale force winds about. Mixed in the wind were branches, hail, and even a couple of garbage cans, which blew past me as I stood in the cubby that offered no real protection. Of course, the bus was late so there I stood, ready for the clinic, soaking wet! I had to return home and change out of my drenched clothing.
In addition, it crossed my mind that I needed to check on my brave attack cat, Mr. Mokey. Just then, as I was leaving the cubby, over the hill a wee distance, popped the bus and I had to decide, tae miss my appointment that had taken me two months tae get, or tae go as I was. Well ol' Doc McKinney had told me I must NOT miss this appointment again so I caught the bus just as I was, soaked to the skin and freezing.
Now, I admit I had missed an appointment or two and I was not at all faithful when it came tae timeliness, especially where the medical profession is concerned. This time I had everything planned just right so I could get to the clinic early and surprise them all. Fate proved to be an enemy as ‘twas the bus what came late; I was wet, cold, and not at all happy and for the life of me, the Doctor would just have tae take me as I was.
Arriving a tad past my appointed time and prepared to face ol’ Doctor McKinney with a bloody good excuse, I soon learned that an emergency at the Caulkins farm required the Doctor tae leave and I was tae return another day.
I had an emergency myself just then…standing before the Nurse, shaking from the cold and still quite wet, I now was made to understand that the 'facilities' were not working.
On the bus coming home the clouds parted and the most beautiful rainbow shown brilliantly over my little village. What a sight and what a wonderful day to be wet and to be able to smile about it.
Well friend, that was my day, how is yours? Are your clouds turning dark and gloomy? Do not worry over storm clouds because they will part, and soon a rainbow will fill your life!
Have a grand day…and stay dry!
