Fives years removed still the city shows pains
In my mind memories have been embroidered and stained
River rose high broke the levees down
Ground saturated with dark murky secrets
As the water cleared there was a truth to be found
Does it matter which side of the fence you sat
If you felt sorrow or rushed to judgement without the facts
We have been broken and beaten down exposed nakedly like a trees bark
Katrina and BP have definitely left their mark
Five years down the line the river rises again
Covered with dark murky secrets of oil and greedy sin
The world may shake their head as they see us praying and kneeling
This is time of our rebirth a time for healing
People like to label us uneducated , lazy southern fools
When you mess with one you mess with us all
Ding ding lets start to rumble because it is you who needs to be schooled
Sometimes treasures we hold onto here on earth are slightly slanted
As a true survivor I promise every breathe I take is not for granted
Each tear I shed today is for being alive feels likes a selfish display
My prayers are for those in heaven and I thank God for this day© 2012 Created by Lazy Poets.
