Catching up

Men and women alike appreciate poetry, but don't usually purchase it for themselves. I've proclaimed July to be "Buy poetry for your lover" month so they can receive books of meaningful poetry from their lovers, spouses, significant others, BFF's, close friends, family members, distant relatives, and even pen pals.

The Facebook event info is at http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages#!/event.php?eid=124

Wine Tasting, an Art Crawl and a Poetry Contest

This past weekend I took several large framed photos to a local Wichita gallery, Three Pea Gallery, who will be selling them along with my books. We are putting the finishing touches on a book signing/wine tasting evening at Three Pea during a monthly event called "Final Friday." It is planned for April 30th, and two other artists, plus the gallery owner, will be showing their work as well. I'll have several copies of my new book ("Aspects Long Forgotten") available and I'll personally sign t

Aspects Long Forgotten and Quatrain City

"Aspects Long Forgotten" is now released and available at http://www.jackhuber.com/aspects.htm. My latest book of poetry and photography, named for a poem within, was a year in the making.

The local gallery carrying my work, Three Pea, is planning an "Aspects" book-signing for Final Friday, an evening art crawl in the gallery district. Watch for that announcement.

JackHuber.com is also sponsoring a poetry contest

In good form...

Once again I have an article published in the Poetic Monthly Magazine. In this month's column, which was released today, I discuss how and when I choose a poetic form. You can find it on Page 47 of the "View Free PDF" link partway down the front page of http://www.poetstage.com/poeticmonthly.htm. Also selected and included in this issue are two of my submissions, "Kindred Souls" and "Judging Without Knowing."

I haven't sent out news in a while...

I've been working on my next book, which should be complete and available by the end of March. I hope your Valentine's Day was special, as Mexican dinners with my Valentine always are.

My latest article, "The Scene of the Rhyme", was published today on Poetic Monthly Magazine. You can find it at http://www.poetstage.com/poeticmonthly.htm on page 46 using the "View Free PDF" link about half a page down. I am asked about rh

New Articles Published

My two newest articles were published this week on Associated Content . "Confessions of a Closet Metrosexual" gives a little peek at my personal life. "Coping With Writer's Block" (subtitled "When 'Just Do It' Just Doesn't Do It") is self-explanatory. Please leave comments, and by all… Continue

Website Updated/Composer Wanted

I finally had time to update my website this week. I added two new pages, one to keep a list of articles I'm writing for various periodicals and the other to provide links to lyrics I've begun to write. I am a staff writer for Poetic Monthly Magazine, but they do not keep archives online once an issue is replaced by a new current one. So, once an issue has passed, I'm posting my column on my Associated Content space. You can see the start on my list at… Continue

Belated and elated news

A lot's been going on the last few weeks. I'll try to bring you up to date. After a year-long job search, I managed to get hired last month as a Systems Analyst at the airport here in Wichita. While it's a great relief to be working again, I've found little time to write until this week. As for news, my latest article was published today at Poetic Monthly Magazine. It is about inspiration to write and you can download the pdf for free: http:Continue

Two bits of news (that's twenty-five cents' worth)

My first article as a staff writer for Poetic Monthly Magazine was published today. There is a free pdf you can read; my article is on pages 60-61, titled "A Poet Does Not a Lyricist Make." Hope you enjoy it, along with the rest of the issue: http://www.poetstage.com/poeticmonthly.htm (click on "View free PDF:). Also, most of my poetic form articles now appear on my new Associated Content page:… Continue

I'm moving my articles to AC

I have been posting my poetic form tutorials on my own website, 22 so far, but have decided to move them to Associated Content, a site devoted to articles and information from a wide variety of topics. On this site, my audience will be widened considerably. For many years I have had columns published, both online and in print, about business practices and describing technology to the layperson. I plan on publishing some of those articles as well, and will get back to writing on those topics aga… Continue

Poem chosen as a "Staff Pick"

One of my recent poems, "Keeper of the Grounds," was chosen as a "Staff Pick" for the month of September by GotPoetry.com. "Keeper" is a "terza rima" poem, an Italian form from the Middle Ages, once used by such poets as Dante, Milton, Byron, Robert Frost and T.S. Eliot. This is the second time a poem of mine was selected as a GotPoetry.com Staff Pick. The first was "Brothers," chosen in September, 2008. I wonder if I'll be chosen in again September of 2010... For more information, and to see… Continue

I'm now a literary magazine staff writer

I'm excited to announce that the online literary publication, Poetic Monthly Magazine, accepted my application to become a staff writer and my column will begin appearing in next month's issue. I was introduced to its founder, Martin D. White, by my good friend and fellow author Diane Tegarden. Martin describes his magazine: "Poetic Monthly Magazine is so much more than just poetry. Each month our talented staff writers [discuss] writing, poetry styles, book promotion, and other author related… Continue

Poetry and Publishers

Though poetry is making a comeback, especially classic poetry, traditional publishers, such as Random House and Penguin Group, are still hesitant to take on such a project. It would be helpful if everyone who enjoys poetry would let major publishers know by going to their websites and sending comments. Start by looking inside the covers in your favorite books and see who the publisher is. Then look them up online. Buying gobs of poetry books wouldn't hurt either. Continue

I was highlighted in a newspaper column today

In today's issue of the Hutchinson News, an article appeared about me and my relationship with Greensburg, KS, and the 5.4.7 Arts Center. "Poet, Arts Center 'Splendid' Partners," describes my new book as well as my interest in the small town's rebuilding efforts. About two hours west of Wichita, Greensburg was obliterated by an EF-5 tornado in May 2007. 'Splendid' refers to the title of my book, "A Splendid Alternative" and the title poem inspired by Greensburg's phoenix-like re-emergence from… Continue

Two news items

The 5-4-7 Arts Center in Greensburg, built to high "green" standards after the devastating tornado nearly destroyed the town in 2007, has begun selling Jack's latest book. The title poem, "A Splendid Alternative," was written about Greensburg's admirable rebuilding efforts. Jack has decided to donate all profits from sales of "Splendid" to the Arts Center and is recommending that fans also consider donations. The Arts Center building is the first "LEED Platinum" building in Kansas. For more inf… Continue
