Fahir Atakoglu releases his latest and third Jazz CD, Faces & Places. As a follow-up to his hard-hitting fusion offering, 2008’s Istanbul in Blue the accomplished Turkish-born pianist-composer-arranger Fahir Atakoglu casts a wide stylistic net on Faces and Places, deftly incorporating musical elements from Spain, Brazil, the Middle East and New York City into the compelling mix. On board for this dynamic outing are such world-class players as trumpeter Randy Brecker, guitarists Wayne Krantz and Romero Lubambo, Yellowjackets saxophonist Bob Mintzer and the outstanding rhythm tandem of bassist John Patitucci (a longstanding member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet and a composer-bandleader in his own right) and the great Cuban drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez.

Fahir Atakoglu is an international award winning composer and pianist well known in the fields of large symphonic works and film music. His works have been performed in various music festivals in Europe and The United States to critical acclaim, he is considered one of the most outstanding pianists and composers in the world today.

“Pianist Fahir Atakoglu brings an assertive and exotic approach to the piano”
All About Jazz

Since 1986, Fahir has composed jingles, documentary and film music for many national and international productions. For his work in film composition Fahir won first prize for Documentary Music Composition at the Milano Film Festival, and won “The Best Song Award” from The Mega Channel in Greece.

Also an accomplished solo artist, Fahir has released 18 albums since his solo debut in 1994, and maintains an intense touring schedule, including his recent sold out shows at the world renowned Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, and Carnegie Hall in New York City, proving his worldwide appeal.

“Undeniably skillful and unique” --- Jazz Times

“There's a lot to enjoy on this recording from a contemporary and historical standpoint, and as listeners should definitely own a copy of "If," this one shows a willingness to expand, employ different styles, and bodes well for Atakoglu's next adventurous excursion.” All Music Guide
