The Observer

9 x 11
September 2011

Here is piece that is very personal and deep. The challenged was to create something by just using a fortune cookie to describe myself. The result transformed into a album cover that reflects me.
I thought of bright and dark colors that stand out, this could be use as a comic book character.
Pencil, ink and color pencils were used to achieve this Illustration. I started drawing lightly out the lay out. Next I filled in some areas with ink, then colored the rest in with color pencils.
The sun shines from the background using orange and yellow rays that emphasized the figure. The figure itself stands out by applying dark colors. Its eyes seem to be looking at you, paralyzing the audience who upon it. Last is the heart. Instead of an organic heart, an artificial heart was portrayed. The sun shines through showing the warm colors inside it, which represents life energy.

This was the fortune cookie I had to work with.
"The sun will always shine through your heart, into your smile, and warm your soul.

And I turn that sentence into this.
"When you're on top of the world, You can see everything.
You observe and learn from those below you. If you shout you will be heard and your voice will echo back. The cool wind hardens your senses and make you edgy. As the sun rises, it shines through you, creating a burning passion. At times you pose no emotion like ice. However even element ice can hide a heart and soul. In response you smile. Glad that you are the Observer.
